I guess that maybe Canadians can hold peaceful protests now? HOWEVER, journalists here don’t have freedom of speech. Lauren Southern and Lauren Chen were silenced for over a year due to trumped up charges against Chen’s Tenet Media. https://youtu.be/SX4nCraO7Ys?si=X3Rf9OjB-PBEFrZH
As well, Artur Pawlowski and Tamara Lich were jailed for their political activities (both were jailed without trials). So I’m not convinced that the Canadian government will stop its suppression of political views that it doesn’t like.
Oh you know that Chrystia Freeland went from being a Canadian politician (cabinet minister) and journalist… to being an advisor to Ukraine.
Mark Carney. But the opposition guy, Pierre Poilievre, is just a diet version of the liberals. The conservatives here supported the mandates and supported the portrayal of wrongthinkers (politicians meeting with an Afd politician) as alt right Nazis. The PPC is the only party here who didn’t support the mandates.
The US though…
I have my reservations about the US because:
The government didn’t properly investigate the murder of Jeffrey Epstein, who didn’t kill himself. The FBI shouldn’t be covering up his murder.
The government also covered up the murders in the Las Vegas shooting (see Ian Carroll’s appearance on Tucker), Martin Luther King (his family won a lawsuit which found that the official narrative is false), Charlie Kirk, and JFK.
Now if the US government has the power to assassinate the president of the United States, then Americans don’t actually live in a democracy. You can’t vote for the dismantling of the FBI and intelligence communities because that candidate will be killed.
Is it just a coincidence that Trump is working more and more with the deep state after his 2 assassination attempts? Trump appointed Tulsi Gabbard as DNI but has now sidelined her.
Trump is soft on Comey and the intelligence agencies- who spied on his campaign, fabricated Russiagate, etc.
The power of the US government:
Thanks to Edward Snowden and other leakers, we know that the American government spies on its citizens, journalists, whistleblowers, and sitting politicians.
The FBI spied on a number of Republicans and Trump, who complained about it publicly.
Journalists Sharyl Atkinson and Tucker Carlson allege that the US government spied on them.
The Wikileaks Vault 7 documents show that the CIA is capable of hacking cars, smart TVs, web browsers, etc.
Problems with journalism in the US:
When the US government froze the assets of Tenet Media, it chilled the speech of Americans like Tim Pool, Dave Rubin, and others (Matt Christiansen, Tayler Hansen, Benny Johnson).
Now it appears that Tim Pool is shilling for the Trumpified version of the deep state. Pool has been publicly attacking Candace Owens over her coverage of the Charlie Kirk assassination (i.e. the FBI is covering it up).
Alex Jones’ employee Owen Shroyer was jailed because he was a journalist during the J6 events. Jailing journalists has a chilling effect on their work. Alex Jones is now attacking Candace Owens.
Tucker Carlson is lightly shilling for Donald Trump. Remember: the US government spied on Tucker’s phone and was able to read his encrypted Signal messages. Tucker was also booted out of Fox News despite being the highest-rated TV show.
The mainstream news widely reported that there was weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. This was used to justify the US invasion of Iraq. There were no WMD.
Problems with Big Tech censorship:
Google hasn’t stopped its censorship of the Las Vegas shooting massacre and what really happened. Google will suppress the search ‘las vegas shooting map’ (LasVegasShootingMap.com links to publicly-available evidence that there were multiple shooters instead of just one). Yandex, a Russian search engine, doesn’t do that.
Youtube/Google took down Maduro’s Youtube account when he was the sitting leader of Venezuela. It also censors RT / Russia Today.
The censorship hasn’t stopped despite Trump and Republicans pretending to care about free speech. Trump has gone after anti-Israel/pro-Palestinian speech by deporting/jailing activists like Sami Hamdi, Mahmoud Khalil, etc.
The bottom line
Freedoms are limited in Western democracies. Supporting the Gaza genocide is fine. Opposing it can get you jailed like Sami Hamdi.
As far as the suppression of vax injury goes, it’ll vary from country to country (even in the Western world). In the US, there is a Trumpified version of the US deep state backed by its own think tanks (e.g. America First Policy Institute). They are ok with Israel first America first populism, so they will tolerate the current war between MAHA (Make America Healthy Again) and big pharma.
But the system is still there. Nothing has been done about ensuring that apartheid won’t happen again. Some group will suffer the brunt of it. Maybe it’ll be trans, social justice people, or Zionists instead of the vax injured. The problems haven’t been solved.
