3 studies on Long COVID and post-vax - will the science be any good? Should chronic illness communities participate?

Following up on the Yale Iwasaki/Krumholz study:

One of the participants was hospitalized for myocarditis three days after receiving their first vaccine dose according to the final published paper.

One participant was hospitalized for chest pain and myocarditis three days after receiving their first vaccine dose and again after their second dose. This participant reported being previously hospitalized soon after infection with probable myocarditis.

I could not find the word myocarditis in the pre-print or Iwasaki’s Twitter thread.

  • The pre-print states that the patient was hospitalized twice for ‘chest pain’.

Surprisingly, despite being hospitalized for myocarditis, the patient got a second dose (!!!) and was hospitalized again (!!!).

Pre-registration records

You can look up pre-registration records for the study under NCT04895189. The 2025 May 22 update changed Enrollment data from 100 estimated to 16 actual.

However, Krumholz said that 100 people were enrolled in the study.

Conflicts of interest

Iwasaki did not disclose a financial tie to Pfizer, even though she received research funding from Pfizer to run a trial that Pfizer designed. If Pfizer designs a trial for Iwasaki to run… doesn’t that effectively make her a contractor/employee?

Krumholz disclosed a financial tie to Pfizer.
