Listen up Americans… the CICP deadline will likely get extended to Dec 2025.
If the proposed government spending bill passes, you will get up to December 2025 to file your claim. It also states that you can refile if you were “denied on the basis of having not been filed within the time period required”.
- (If you were recently injured, you also get up to 3 years after your vaccination to file.)
The CICP program is pretty trash as the rejection rate is close to 100%. (It’ll also take 10 years to clear their current backlog.) However, one can make an argument that the government may allow CICP claims to be eligible for the VICP program (which is much much better).
VICP is better than CICP but…
…it doesn’t cover COVID vaccines. There is a good chance that the government will change VICP to allow COVID vaccines. However, who knows when that will happen. If you were injured in the past 3 years, it could make sense to wait and see if VICP changes.
The statute of limitations is basically the deadline for filing. For VICP, the deadline:
- 3 years from the onset of first symptom
- 2 years from date of death
If you were injured within 2-3 years ago, then you may want to wait until right before the CICP deadline before you commit to CICP and give up VICP.
